November 1987 - Caney Baptist Church members agreed to purchase land for the purpose of a new church building.

May 1988 - Two acres of prime roadside property were purchased from Ferrell Slone for $60,000.

November 1994 - Property was Paid-in-Full!  The 15-year mortgage was paid in six years -- 9 years early.

November 1998 - Architect Randy Burchett of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, was enlisted to design the new church building.  Mr. Burchett submitted a preliminary plan for a 16,000 square-foot building.  Estimated cost:  $750,000.

March 1999 - Caney Baptist Church solicited donations and pledges for the Caney Baptist Church Building Fund.  Pledges totaled over $50,000.

November 2001 - Mr. Burchett, at the request of the Church, revised the building plan to 14,000 square-feet.  Estimated cost:  $600,000.  Members voted to wait until more funds were raised before beginning construction.

November 2006 - Church members decided to go forward with the building project with $250,000 in hand.  Plans were made to attempt to put the building under roof with the funds on hand, then ask for volunteer labor and contributions of materials to finish the inside.

January 2007 - Mr. Burchett revised the building plan to 8,000 square feet.  Estimated cost:  $600,000.  Time had resulted in cost of building materials and labor going up, so the cost is still the same but for a smaller building.

March 2007 - Building plans were submitted to the State of Kentucky for approval.

April 2007 - Ground Breaking ceremony was held on the Church property.

May 2007 - Foundation preparation began, but soil testing revealed that the ground was not packed well enough to support the building.  Construction planned for June 2007 had to be put on hold.

June 2007 - Carpenters for Christ, a volunteer group of professional builders based in Alabama, contacted the Church about the possibility of helping build the new church building in 2008.

September 2007 - The Carpenters for Christ announced that Caney Baptist Church would be one of their mission projects for 2008.  The building plan had been simplified to allow faster, more efficient construction and increased square footage.  Estimated cost:  $375.000 (not including furnishings, landscaping, etc.).  Funds already raised:  $300,171 (December 31, 2008).

April 2008 - Footers and foundation slab were completed.

June 2008 - Major construction began.

July 2008 - April 2009 - The church deacons approved a $100,000 building construction loan, and donations totalling approximately $40,000 were received during the months of the building phase.  An additional $10,000 was borrowed to pay off final bills, leaving us with a total building cost of $400,000.  The appraisal value of our new church came in at $850,000 in April 2009.

March 2009 - Building was completed and we moved into the new church.  The first service was held on March 22, 2009.

May 17, 2009 - The Building Dedication Service was held.  Over 200 people were in attendance.  Moving words from volunteers, church members, and  the pastor, Rev. Lawrence Baldridge, made it a very special occasion.  The Alice Lloyd College choir, Voices of Appalachia, gave a mini concert, and the first pastor of the original Caney Baptist Chapel, Rev. Floyd Tidsworth, gave the message.
